I’m Sunny Mercedes, a passionate saxophonist and electric wind instrument (EWI) aficionado based in the sun-soaked city of San Diego, California. My musical journey began in a household filled with the vibrant sounds of jazz, funk, and blues. Growing up in San Diego, I was constantly surrounded by music, thanks to my parents who were avid music lovers. My father’s jazz records were my first teachers, and it wasn’t long before I fell in love with the saxophone. I still remember the thrill of playing my first notes, feeling the powerful resonance and the emotional depth that only a saxophone can deliver.

As a teenager, I spent countless hours practising, performing at local gigs, and exploring various genres. My passion for music took me to the University of California, San Diego, where I earned a degree in Music Performance. Post-graduation, I toured with several bands, collaborated with amazing artists, and discovered the incredible versatility of the saxophone and EWIs.

Electric wind instruments opened a whole new world for me. The fusion of traditional wind instrument playability with modern electronic capabilities was nothing short of revolutionary. From the expressive nuances of a classic saxophone to the limitless soundscapes of an EWI, I found my creative playground.
